I'm documenting my practice sessions live as I work toward blues improvisation.

I will be using my app: Practiceroute to plan and work with a routine.

The routine will last approximately 1 hour, starting with technical practice and ending with a short blues improv.

The goal is to, over time, sound like I know what i'm doing!

Why live?

To be honest, it's a  part of a campaign to promote my app: Practiceroute,  and the benefits it brings through the use of routines and timers. I truly believe in this method, so my goal is to convince others of it, through my own improvement during this challenge.

It also aligns with my own desire to learn the blues. So I put the two together and came up with this series.

What's with the title: Practice With Me?

This series is also mean't to inspire anyone to practice more or practice along with my videos, although you'd probably want to mute them if you do

I took the name after coming across the "Study With Me" trend on Youtube. It's basically the same idea, but the difference here is that we're expecting to hear an improvement in my playing as time goes on... so we have something to look forward to!

My blues playing currently...

The blues is one of those genres I've always wanted to learn but have only ever touched the surface of. Never actually going in depth, I have a slight feel for it, but I lack the vocabulary to really sound authentic.

More specifically, my current weaknesses:

  • Fretboard visualization

  • Scales/Arpeggios

  • Blues vocabulary

  • Knowledge of blues music

My approach to learning

My first goal is to expand my fretboard knowledge of scales/arpeggios that can at least keep me afloat through a blues progression. Followed by learning licks, transcribing, listening and so on. It's a fairly long term strategy, so I will be adjusting my focus as I improve.

The details of my routine will be shown live on the stream and also posted to my website along with any other material that I use in my practice.
